Aquarium Industry Census™
Real data. Real practices. One unified reference for the global aquatic community.
The Aquarium Industry Census™ is a neutral, data-driven initiative to document what the aquarium world actually does in practice. By collecting large-scale input from retailers, local fish stores, service professionals, public aquariums, manufacturers, educators, institutions, and hobbyists, we map where the majority of real-world experience really falls—across cycling, stocking, quarantine, water changes, feeding, and more.
Instead of opinions and arguments scattered across forums and videos, the Census creates a shared reference point the entire community can use.
Your experience with aquariums—whether in a store, on a service route, in a public institution, or at home as a hobbyist—helps create clearer, more consistent recommendations for both new and experienced aquarists.
Participate in the 2025 Census
The 2025 Census focuses on real-world aquarium practices—what people actually do, not what they say in theory. Your responses help:
• Reveal where the majority opinion really is on debated topics
• Highlight where the industry agrees, and where it clearly does not
• Build a dataset that educators, stores, service companies, and hobbyists can use as a neutral reference.
Estimated time: 15–20 minutes · All responses are anonymous and analyzed in aggregate only.
Built for the Entire Aquatic Community
The Aquarium Industry Census™ welcomes participation from big-box retailers, independent fish stores, maintenance and installation companies, public aquariums and zoos, marine science and aquaculture programs, conservation organizations, manufacturers, clubs, and hobbyists at every level—from first-time tank owners to advanced reef keepers.
The 2025 survey focuses on new-tank startup and early-stage practices as our first dataset, but the long-term goal is much broader: to build ongoing, topic-by-topic data that the entire industry can reference.
Consensus Reports and Future Research
As participation grows, the Aquarium Industry Census™ will publish clear, accessible reports summarizing where the majority of responses fall—and where opinions remain sharply divided. These reports will be freely available to the community and can be used to inform training, store policies, educational content, and long-term husbandry guidance across the industry.
Future surveys will expand beyond new-tank startup to cover broader topics such as long-term maintenance strategies, quarantine practices, livestock sourcing, and advanced system design.
